the distance run DOES NOT = Pace of Ball, although some runup is needed by the fastest bowlers , the distance varies a great deal while speed remains the same. If we look at all the world bowlers that bowl at 140KPH & up , 15 to 30 yards for runups is the norm.
Why do you always see the field scatter after every over?
They are swapping sides :O
It's not the batsmen changing ends..
You mustn't judge so quickly. While fast bowlers do bowl near the 100MPH mark, there are some extremely guileful slow bowlers called spinners and the good ones are dreaded as though they bowl at around 60-65 mph, they end up spinning the ball and deceiving the batter. Also, cricket batters would relish the opportunity of hitting a ball without bouncing (full toss). In fact if it was known to them beforehand that the ball isn't going to bounce, they would never get out!
